DEFINITION:
Under direct supervision, assists Utilities personnel in performing general service work in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems. May be assigned to maintenance or operational tasks at the wastewater plant site.
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:
The Utilities Laborer will assist with the operation of utility trucks, air compressors, tractors, tractor loaders, rodders, jetters, and other power-driven equipment and tools. This position is required to drive to every facility which is operated and maintained by the Utilities Department and have the mobility and agility to move about each site as the work demands dictate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Assists Utilities personnel in performing work related to operating and maintaining a water or wastewater system and equipment.
- Will assist with the operation of utility trucks, air compressors, tractors, tractor loaders,
rodders, jetters, and other power-driven equipment and tools.
- Assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of facility equipment.
- Paints and assists with repairs and service of equipment and facilities.
- Performs heavy manual labor.
- Attend during regularly scheduled work hours.
- Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees,
supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and citizen customers.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Performs other related functions as assigned or apparent.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Mechanical aptitude.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language, and be at least 18 years of age.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in underground construction and maintenance ora similar type of work.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must possess a valid State of Georgia driver’s license. Satisfactory completion of background examination, physical examination, and random drug/alcohol testing. Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Working hours are flexible, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with some weekends as needed.
