PUBLIC NOTICE: Sewage Improvement Project Meeting
PUBLIC NOTICE
The City of Cornelia hereby gives notice that a public meeting will be held to discuss a sewerage improvement project funded by a Georgia Environmental Finance Authority grant on April 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM in the Cornelia City Hall Courtroom located at 181 Larkin Street, Cornelia, GA 30531.
The Blair Road Hatchery Sewerage Improvements project includes the installation of a sewerage lift station at Blair Road Hatchery and approximately 18,300 linear feet of 3-inch diameter PVC force main to tie into the City of Cornelia’s sewerage system. This will allow for the abandonment of the failing septic system on property. The lift station will be located on the Blair Road Hatchery’s property. The force main will be installed along Blair Road, Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway, and Camp Creek Road to the nearest City of Cornelia gravity sewer manhole on the property of the Cornelia Water Treatment Plant. The anticipated construction cost of the project is $1,664,000.
The purposes of the public meeting are to:
1.
Inform the public of the need for improvements to the City’s wastewater system to provide sewer service to the Blair Road Hatchery.
2.
To comply with Section 391-3-6-.02 of Georgia’s Water Quality Control Rules (and amendments thereto).
3.
To encourage public involvement in the development of a plan to improve the wastewater system.
During the public meeting, the City will attempt to identify public preferences for alternative methods of improving the City’s wastewater system. These alternatives will be evaluated and included in the City’s Environmental Review and Planning Document, the planning document covering the wastewater system improvement project. These documents are available for public inspection through the date of the public meeting at the Cornelia City Hall Building located at 181 Larkin Street, Cornelia, GA 30531 during normal business hours.
Your participation is encouraged and considered essential to the selection and development of the final plan to be adopted prior to its approval by the State of Georgia, Department of Natural Resources.
